Expecting parents often hear a similar phrase: “Get your sleep/rest now, because you won’t get any with a baby!” This isn’t simply because babies, well, need a lot. It’s more because babies have a reputation for their finicky sleep schedules and unexpected crying fits. In fact, 20-25 percent of babies are said to have colic, according to the American Pregnancy Association. Colic is frequently defined by the Rule of 3’s, known as the Wessell Criteria, in which a colicky infant is one who “cries for more than three hours a day, for more than three days a week, for over three weeks.” Colic usually dissipates by the time a baby is 9 months old. But babies and their parents don’t need to suffer through almost a year of inconsolable crying and missed sleep.

Lakewood Chiropractor, Dr. Jacob specializes in adjusting the youngest of patients, beginning with newborns. Chiropractic adjustments for babies are of course gentler than they might be for adults, and the babies don’t experience any discomfort. Instead, they quickly experience relief, as baby Edith did. After all, even babies have nervous system interference and pathways that need to be cleared, often from before birth, due to improper positioning in the womb or doctor interference (such as the use of forceps, suction or traction) during delivery.

Edith’s mom Bethany a Denver resident, brought her to see  west Denver pediatric chiropractor Dr. Jacob because the 2-month-old was frequently inconsolably crying and suffering from digestion problems. Bethany said that, immediately after Edith’s gentle adjustment by Dr. Jacob, it was like she had a new baby. The crying stopped and Edith started falling asleep with ease.

Bethany and Edith are a perfect example of how much of a difference chiropractic can make for babies and, by extension, their parents. So the next time someone warns you that you won’t get any sleep with a baby, tell them not to worry — you have a chiropractor on your side.
