Happy Mother’s Day!

The last six months with Jack have been a day by day adventure. Each day we explore “newness” together; new emotions, new motor developments, new language, new sleep patterns :-), new sounds and the list goes on. It is truly amazing to watch Jack in action and to reflect on the growth we have experienced in 6 short months as a family. This role of motherhood is remarkable on many levels. It taps into emotions that run deeper than any emotion I have ever felt before. I am thankful for my mother, sisters and friends that have answered numerous phone calls, many questions and simply allowed me to cry when need be. I need to be physically fit to do all that I do in a day as a mom. At 6 months Jack weighs 18lbs, 9 oz. To hold him the way I do, I need a strong body. I am thankful for Jacob, my chiropractor, Stroller Strides – Highlands and my determination for keeping my body in optimal performance so that I can do the physical demands of motherhood.   Over the last few months, some inspirational pieces have crossed my path. I share them with you in hopes that they will inspire you too. Again, Happy Mother’s Day. One day in the year is dedicated to celebrating mothers. I encourage you to find celebration in every day. What you do as a mother is beyond words impressive. Thank you.

Thoughts on motherhood by Debra Gilbert Rosenberg

– New mothers enter the world of parenting feeling much like Alice in Wonderland.

– Being a mother is one of the most rewarding jobs on earth and also one of the most challenging.
– Motherhood is a process. Learn to love the process.
– There is a tremendous amount of learning that takes place in the first year of your baby’s life; the baby learns a lot, too.
– It is sometimes difficult to reconcile the fantasy of what you thuoght motherhood would be like, and what you thought you would be like as a mother, with reality.
– Take care of yourself. If Mommy isn’t happy, no one else in the family is happy either.
– New mothers generally need to lower their expectations.
– A good mother learns to love her child as he is and adjusts her mothering to suit her child.”
