Pregnancy Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic care benefits
A pregnant woman’s body undergoes many changes during pregnancy – physical, chemical and emotional. A clear communication between the brain and the body, via a balanced nervous system, helps pregnant women navigate these changes.
Some of the common changes that our clients experienced during pregnancy that brought them to our office include:
- Breech presentation (Non-ideal fetal positioning)
- Low back pain
- Pelvic pain
- Round ligament pain
Chiropractic care during pregnancy can bring a comfortable and easy pregnancy and increase a woman’s overall health along the way.
Healthy mom, healthy baby
Home to the growing baby, the uterus is a muscle controlled by nerves regulated by the central nervous system. For the uterus to grow properly, and contract during labor, it needs adequate nerve supply. With good nerve supply to the uterus, labor time and labor pains can be reduced, and there can be a decreased chance of medical intervention. If a pregnant woman has subluxations in her spine, nerve supply to the uterus can be affected.
The position of a woman’s pelvis during pregnancy affects the position of the growing uterus – which, in turn, affects the position of the growing baby. A misalignment of the pelvis can lead to an imbalanced uterus; the result can cause intra-uterine constraint and potentially lead to a breech presentation of baby.
When ideally positioned in the womb, baby has a better chance of proper muscle tone and nerve function. If not positioned properly, there is the potential of higher risk of birth trauma and injury. Proper pelvic positioning decreases the potential for undue stress to baby’s developing spine and nerve system.
Examples of injury or body imbalance due to improper positioning in the womb include:
- Arm injuries
- Cranial malformations
- Pelvic misalignments
We are trained in a specialized analysis and adjusting technique called the “Webster Technique,” which focuses on a properly aligned pelvis.
