Children and Chiropractic

At Well Beings, we are seeing a lot of children who are experiencing challenges to their immune system (croup, sinus infections and ear infections). Jack and I just went through the process of upgrading our bodies by processing a cough and cold. Upgrades are not always fun but our bodies are stronger now that we’ve been through the experience. I thought I would share some of what we did to support our inside out healing process.

Nervous system – We had our spines and nervous system checked daily. Knowing that the function of the nervous system impacts the function of the immune system, it was important to that our nervous systems were clear of any interference so that our bodies could heal as efficiently as possible.

  1. Slowed down and unplugged – We decreased our activity and increased our rest. This is tough to do in our society that values the go, go, go but a vital step in the healing process.
  2. Moisture – The dry Denver climate is tough on our respiratory systems. To increase the moisture, I created a steam room in the bathroom. I turned on the shower as hot as it would go for 5 minutes to create steam then we stood/sat  in the bathroom for 15-30 minutes and took in the steam. We also ran the humidifier at night infused with lemon or lavender essential oils.
  3. Garlic – Garlic is a natural immune booster.  Several times a day I would eat a pressed clove of garlic mixed with a spoonful of water.
  4. Nutrition – My body really craved light broths and green smoothies so that is what I ate. I eliminated all refined sugars.
  5. Mind-body connection – I was very conscious of saying and thinking we were processing and healing vs. we are sick. You bring about what you think about so I focused on our healing with daily meditation and positive thought.
  6. Essential oils – I applied a mixture of lavender and lemon essential oil to Jack’s feet and chest and to my throat and chest. (I used a carrier oil with Jack to decrease the intensity.)

The body has an amazing ability to heal. Give the process a chance.
